Letters Home (V)

The waves spring
And fall, eternally
Along the curving sand.

Seen from the high cliffs
It is a silent spread
Of white,
And moves like a voracious lover
Covering the strand.

Complacently the sea
Leaves and comes again
Telling of love
Desired and gone
For many, not for one.
